Mr Michael, a resident of Catford for 26 years, says he and a number of other ethnic minority candidates have been marginalised by the party in a “scandalous apartheid system”, being put forward for unwinnable seats and given no support. He said: “We should be having a party that looks like Lewisham but people in charge at a high level are completely ignoring that.”Out of Labour’s 26 councillors, just five are from ethnic minority backgrounds.
I've just looked it up and apparently about 60% of people in Lewisham Borough are white, which is because there are some very white enclaves left, but Lewisham itself is a very black area. That so few black people are councillors is a joke.
I fail to understand how Labour people manage to keep a straight face when accusing us of racism when it can't even manage to select black people to represent black people.
